Acme Visible is proud to have played a role in the storage fit-out for the Glenbow Museum in Calgary, AB — home to one of the largest and most diverse museum collections in Canada. With a collection spanning fine art, Indigenous artifacts, historical objects, archival documents, and a significant firearms collection, the Glenbow required a purpose-built storage environment capable of safely housing items of vastly different sizes, materials, and preservation requirements.

Working closely with the Glenbow's curatorial and facilities teams, Acme Visible designed and supplied a multi-system storage solution tailored to each collection category. Spacefile Mechanical Assist high-density mobile shelving was installed throughout the main collection storage areas, providing maximum floor-space efficiency while keeping every artifact accessible. The open-shelf configuration allows curators to store and retrieve objects of varying dimensions without restriction.

For the museum's heritage furniture and large format objects — including antique wooden card catalogues and oversized archival pieces — the same high-density mobile shelving system was configured with heavy-duty open shelves, accommodating items that would be impossible to house in conventional storage.

The Glenbow's extensive firearms collection required a dedicated solution. Acme Visible supplied a specialized flat tray shelving system designed to store long guns horizontally, protecting surfaces and finishes while keeping each piece individually accessible and clearly organized.

Rounding out the installation, mobile specimen cabinets on locking casters were provided for smaller artifacts and specimens requiring individual drawer-level organization. Each cabinet features labelled flat drawers, allowing curators to catalogue and locate items quickly while keeping the collection protected and portable within the storage environment.

The result is a fully integrated, multi-system storage environment that gives the Glenbow's team the flexibility, density, and organization needed to care for a world-class collection for generations to come.
